Battle of the bands

2008-07-11 00:00

This weekend sees a number of Durban bands battling away in what was previously known as the Battle Vir Woodstock, and is now The Ultimate Battle. Five different bands — Arise to Conquer, City of Gates, His Dying Wish, Seth and South of a Sun — will be thrashing it out at the Willowvale Hotel in Durban in a bid to launch a career in the music industry.

Bands are judged on their professionalism and conduct in the live-music industry, and not just on songwriting or musicality. Prizes include R10 000 in cash, studio time, a headline slot on the Lucky Fish Music Festival, web design and logo creation with hosting for a year, a year’s worth of hair styling and products, a year’s endorsement by Dovetail Strings, Addian(R) plectrums, a music video, an agency signing (optional), a touring trailer, a two-week national tour, band merchandise and a free live recording. There are also prizes for semi-finalists and regional finalists.

The Durex Ultimate Battle 8 takes place tomorrow at the Willowvale Hotel, 406 Umbilo Road, Durban. Doors open at 7 pm, and votes close at 8 pm. Bands start at 8.30 pm. Entrance is R40, or R30 with a flyer or this article. Giveaways to first 200 people. Inquiries: Authentic Ideas at 011 646 6467 or visit www.authenticideas.co.za
