Bell sells first K-series off Richards Bay line

2012-10-29 00:00

BELL Equipment has sold the first of its new K-series tractor loader backhoes off its production line in Richards Bay.

The machine was sold to Richards Bay property developer and farm owner Rob Hughes, who chose to support the South African manufacturer over 21 imported machines available on the market.

Established in 1954 in Empangeni, Bell employs 3 500 people and it is estimated that about 34 000 additional people gain some form of benefit through its 440 SA suppliers.

It is now one of the world’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers.

Chief Executive Gary Bell says that the company is undertaking a campaign to showcase the manufacturing excellence that exists within the country and create awareness of Bell Equipment, and what it has achieved.

“We’re proud that we’ve grown into one of the global leaders in articulated dump truck manufacture and have pioneered many technological advancements here on South African soil with our team of local engineers.”

Hughes said the bucket on the 315SK WorkPro could be used for bush clearing and could easily be swapped for the forklift attachment. The machine is also fitted with an extended boom so that it can be hired, through a local co-operative, by other farmers needing assistance with trenching.
