Bianca Buitendag’s good form continues

SOUTH Africa’s Bianca Buitendag continued her good run at the Drug Aware Margaret River Women’s Pro in Western Australia, advancing to the quarter-finals yesterday.

Taking on one-metre waves at Main Break, Buitendag looked comfortable, chewing up what was offered with ease.

She took on the surf with panache, burning up the steep rights and delivering some superb backhand combinations. Her efforts were rewarded with the highest heat score of the day as she racked up a brilliant 17,50 out of a possible 20.

The score was good enough to see the Sa surfer straight through to the quarter-finals where she takes on Australian Sally Fitzgibbons who accounted for Hawaii’s Coco Ho in round four.

Buitendag put her success and current winning streak down to being more relaxed on the ASP circuit this year.

“I feel more relaxed right now and it’s working for me,” she said.

“Normally I am the one struggling, but the winning streak suits me and I am not complaining.

“Everything feels so effortless this year and I cannot say why.

“Maybe it’s experience finally coming through and being relaxed at where I find myself.

“I’m also getting used to everyone and the way they surf, their strong and weak points,” Buitendag said.
