Bifocals to rock Notties

2009-11-27 00:00

THE Bifocals will be performing at a fundraising function at Notties (the Nottingham Road Hotel) tomorrow.

The band consists of Ant Jenkins (lead vocals, guitar, harmonica), Bernard von Weichardt (lead guitar and vocals), Robin Brown (bass guitar and vocals) and Mark Pitcher (drums) — all members of the backing band for the Bull and Bush stage shows which were performed in the nineties — with the addition of Claire Robertson on keyboards and Richard Robertson on saxophone, percussion and backing vocals.

The band members refer to themselves as middle-aged “ballies” who grew up to the strains of sixties and seventies music. The band’s name is derived from the fact that its members “sport bifocal specs so that we can read our music while interacting with the audience without changing our specs”.

The evening, which will include a meal, will focus on popular songs of the sixties and seventies, with an emphasis on vocal harmonies. The set will include easy-listening numbers in the early evening, followed by upbeat party numbers and some hard rock thrown in here and there.

Tickets are limited and table bookings can be arranged though the hotel by phoning 033 266 6151 or e-mail nottieshotel@icon.co.za
