Big Charity Walk a big success

2008-02-03 00:00

Not even the searing temperatures could stop over 600 runners and walkers of all age groups from taking part in the first Big Charity Walk that took place on Saturday morning at the Golden Horse Casino.

Golden Horse event manager Vanessa Foxon said that the casino was excited about being part of such a great and meaningful event, but added that she was initially not happy with the number of entries they had received prior to the race.

"I was so relieved when more came to take part in the walk on the day; but overall the walk turned out well," she said.

The director of the Community Chest, Aroo Naidoo, said that he was more than excited about the amount of people who came and supported the event.

"It is never easy to get donations and that is why I am very humbled by the fact that some people are willing to sacrifice their time and money for the benefit of those in need," he said.

Naidoo also said that every last cent of the money collected from the walk will go to 50 charities that are supported by his organisation.

"This is going to be an annual event and I would encourage more people to join us in making a difference to the lives of those in need. I would also like thank our sponsors, The Witness, Lotus fm and Golden Horse Casino," he said.
