Bisley’s burst pipe woes

2008-08-31 00:00

Bisley Heights residents are furious over ongoing water pipe bursts that again left them without water over the weekend.

A resident who wished to remain anonymous alerted The Witness yesterday morning and said they woke up with no water again after the burst pipe was replaced on Saturday evening. This problem has been ongoing since the beginning of the year, according to the residents.

Another resident, who also wished to remain anonymous, said: “The worst thing is the treatment we experience when we phone the municipality call centre. An operator asked what I suggested to be done when I phoned to enquire when water would be back,” she said.

A resident of Kidwell Road said: “They don’t bring the trucks that supply water … We pay for all the services rendered by the municipality … but we don’t see any customer care being practised. We request the intervention of our ward councillor Mazwi Msimang …” he said.

Msunduzi Strategic manager for infrastructure, services and facilities Phil Mashoko said it was unfortunate that the burst pipe happened over the weekend.

“Our technicians and engineers would have to look at it and decide what needs to be done. The problem could be mismatching the sizes of old and new. With repeated pipe bursts, we replace the whole line, but that could take time due to budget constraints.”
