‘Black Tuesday’: call for pickets

2011-11-29 00:00

THE SA National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) has called on South Africans to support the “Black Tuesday” campaign today.

In a statement yesterday, the National Press Club decided to declare another “Black Tuesday” today — one week after Parliament voted in favour of the Protection of State Information Bill (POIB).

Sanef chairperson Mondli Makhanya said: “We … appeal to media houses to continue highlighting the problems and dangers of the POIB.”

Sanef said it supports a call to have pickets outside media houses between noon and 12.30 pm tomorrow.

Senior editors are to meet Cosatu general secretary Zwelinzima Vavi and representatives of the Right2Know campaign this week to discuss the bill.
