Blackouts: suburbs in darkness for five hours

2010-03-22 00:00

CERTAIN parts of Pietermaritzburg were without electricity on Saturday night when some of the Msunduzi Municipality-run sub-stations tripped during a thunderstorm that evening.

Electricity was out for more than five hours in Hilton, Sweetwaters, Westgate and the Buffer area in Imbali.

The Msunduzi process manager for electricity, Maxwell Mthembu, said the outages resulted from tripped switches in various sub-stations.

He said all the areas had their electricity restored by mid-morning yesterday, except Hilton where electricity was restored after lunch.
