Blitz: police net seven firearmsand arrest five

THE KwaZulu-Natal provincial taxi task team and Umhlali dog unit have recovered seven illegal firearms and arrested five suspects, including one of the province’s most wanted men.

The intelligence-driven operation took place over two days.

Colonel Jay Naicker, police spokesperson, said the police started the operation in Kranskop searching various homesteads.

“They recovered six firearms including three shotguns, one 303 rifle, one pistol and an R1 rifle with 69 live rounds.

“Four suspects aged between 45 and 70 years old were arrested during the operation and charged with possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.”

They will appear in the Kranskop Magistrates’ Court today.

The police also went to Nkandla to follow up information about a wanted suspect in Zululand.

“When the members searched the suspect’s house an R5 rifle was found and the suspect was arrested for being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition.

“The arrested suspect (45) was wanted for stock theft, car hijacking, murder, attempted murder and robbery.”

He will appear in the Nkandla Magistrate’s Court on a charge of being in possession of an illegal firearm and ammunition. — WR.
