Bloem boys in City for revenge match

2011-03-28 00:00

THE University of KwaZulu-Natal Impi have the opportunity to lift themselves off the bottom of the Varsity Shield table when they tackle the Central University of Technology (CUT) in what should be an entertaining rugby match at the Peter Booysen Sports Park off Golf Road tonight.

Come 7 pm on the local campus, the Bloemfontein-based CUT boys have the chance to end on top of the log as the league phase of the inaugural Varsity Shield competition wraps up.

They have a game in hand over current leaders Wits University Kudus who have completed their eight matches. This is the Impi’s last match of the campaign and they will play not to finish last on the log. As things stand they are just behind University of Fort Hare Blues on the log table.

What will give the Impi much confidence is their breathtaking 39-38 victory of the selfsame CUT in the first round in Bloemfontein — not an easy feat in the heartland of mielieboere country.

If this encounter reaches even half the heights of the remarkable first-round thriller in Bloem, this is a match rugby-lovers simply have to watch.
