Body builder: Toti lass flies flag for KZN

2011-08-26 00:00

JEN Lithgow (22) of Amanzimtoti came first in the Beach Bikini Line-up during the provincial round of the International Federation of Body Builders (IFBB) KwaZulu-Natal Championships, held at the Playhouse Theatre in Durban last Saturday.

She will next represent KwaZulu-Natal in Cape Town at the national round on September 10. If she is judged the national winner she will represent South Africa at the IFBB’s international round.

Lithgow was approached by a leading nutritional supplement company in April to be its representative.

The company provided Lithgow with professional training from Mario van Biljon, who is a world champion body builder.

Van Biljon’s experience and Lithgow’s natural talent enabled her to win the IFBB KZN East Coast Classic.

“I have been fortunate to be trained by Mario Van Biljon,” said Lithgow.

“He has who has provided me with years of knowledge regarding nutritional intake and training.”

Van Biljon said the national round is an extremely tough line-up as contestants come up against the top athletes of each province.

Lithgow said the competition has been a personal journey. “It’s always best to stay focused on yourself and not on your competition,” she said.

“My competition is myself as I strive to improve each time I prepare for a competition and on stage.”
