Body: police seek identity

2009-03-18 00:00

Police are trying to identify the battered body of a young woman, found on Tuesday near the Slangspruit Primary School in Edendale.

The woman, aged about 20, was lying on her back in the bushes next to the river. She had multiple injuries to her face and upper body, believed to have been inflicted by a blunt object. Her face was badly decomposed.

Police believe she may have been lying in the bush for about four days.

Police described the woman as black, of large build and about 1,6 m tall. She was dark in complexion and had long black dreadlocks. She was wearing a brown skirt and a bra and a black top was found next to her, with her panties and tights about 50 metres away. All her clothing bore traces of blood. Police believe she may have been raped.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Detective Inspector Donovan Cronje on 033 845 7732 or 083 551 4500.
