Bogus clients attack PMB lawyer

2012-01-07 00:00

ON Boxing Day a Pietermaritzburg attorney became the unwitting victim of an attack when he was lured to an alleged client’s house.

Police said that local attorney Nasen Naicker was attacked by three men wielding an iron bar at around 12 noon when he went to a house in Bangalore Road in Northdale.

It is alleged that one of the men contacted Naicker on his cellphone, and pretended to be a client who needed assistance with a drunk driving case.

It was then agreed that they would meet at the man’s house in Bangalore Road. After negotiations were made the man and his two sons assaulted Naicker on his head with knives and an iron pipe.

Naicker sustained open wounds to his head and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The police were notified and were able to apprehend the suspects and they were arrested and charged with assault and intent to cause grievous bodily harm.

All three suspects, aged 17, 22 and 47, were released on bail of R1 000.

The suspects will appear in court on Monday.

Police are still investigating the circumstances of the incident.

When Weekend Witness contacted Naicker regarding the incident he did not want to talk.

He said: “Who told you about this thing? It’s a personal issue. Why do you want to make me a story? Why haven’t you got better things to write about? I will sort this thing out in court and deal with it. I have nothing to say.”
