Bookmakers pick the Stormers

2015-04-22 00:00

CAPE TOWN — The Stormers represent South Africa’s best chance of Super Rugby success in this year’s tournament, according to bookmakers.

The Stormers currently find themselves in second spot in the South African Conference, some two points adrift of the Bulls after nine of the 16 scheduled pool matches.

In the Stormers’ favour is the fact that they have completed their Australasian tour, while the Bulls are yet to embark on theirs.

The Stormers have five of their remaining seven matches at Newlands, while the Bulls will only play host at Loftus Versfeld on two more occasions this season.

The Bulls visit Cape Town on Saturday (kickoff at 7.10 pm) for what could well be a conference-deciding showdown.

Leading bookies Ladbrokes have the Stormers as fifth-favourites for the title at 10/1, with the Bulls on offer at 16/1.

The Sharks are next best at 33/1, followed by the Lions at 80/1.

The Cheetahs are considered rank outsiders at 250/1.

New Zealand duo, the Chiefs and Hurricanes, top the odds at 5/2 and 3/1, respectively, followed by Australian duo, the defending champion Waratahs (7/2) and Brumbies (6/1).
