Bored back on the music scene

2008-02-29 00:00

Local hard-rockers Bored are back on the music scene. The three is made up of Macc (guitars and vocals), Brad (bass) and Jono (drums), who began in Pietermaritzburg in early 1999.

"We are still the original line-up and no less enthusiastic or energetic than when we first began," they say about their rebirth.

"We started playing various small gigs, such as local clubs and bars and a few festivals, including Splashy Fen. But as we grew our music started to change and we found ourselves growing as musicians. A new direction needed to be taken, not so much a new style of music, but rather a more mature band."

The trio has spent two years planning a full-length album while continuing to build their own studio, as well as writing and recording new material. The band members still work full-time jobs, and have bought equipment piece by piece and built up a mini studio where they are recording their music.

"Sound-engineer and vocalist for Four Letta Word Matt Howes has helped us out in the studio and also appears as backing vocals on the first track, 'Sick & Wounded'," says Macc.

So what do they sing and play about? "To us, it's about honesty and about showing people all of you, not just the parts you want them to see," they say. "Art is not true art if you are not being completely honest with yourself, sometimes you have to scream to get the point across."

*Catch Bored tonight (29 February) at the Red Door in Quarry Road. See Gig Guide for more details.
