Boughton: knife-wielding intruders rob elderly couple

2011-03-12 00:00

AN elderly Pietermaritzburg couple were robbed of valuables and a large amount of cash when three knife-wielding men entered their house yesterday afternoon.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan said John Michael O’Grady (75) and his wife Elma (68) were in their Uplands Road house in Boughton when they were attacked at about 12.30 pm.

She said two of the men were armed with knives.

“They forced them to open a safe  where they took away R7 000 and an antique Bernardelli pistol.

“The men then forced the couple into their bathroom where they covered them with blankets and locked them in. They ransacked the house before they got away in the couple’s cream-white Nissan Sentra with registration NP 111064.”

Jeevan said the victims were treated for shock at their home, but they did not sustain visible body injuries.

She has appealed to anyone with information about the attack to call Captain Bashi Thaver at 033 845 7763 or 083 650 4939.
