2009-06-04 00:00

THIS weekend sees the start of the men’s Spec-Savers KwaZulu-Natal Tournament in Durban. The pairs start on Saturday morning. There will be 162 pairs drawn into 27 sections with 31 pairs from Natal Inland.

The fours begin next Tuesday morning with 48 teams being drawn into six sections that will play on a round-robin basis until Friday afternoon. Natal Inland will be represented by 11 fours teams — four teams from Maritzburg Bowling Club, two each from Lynwood and Collegians, and one from Kokstad, Wanderers and Alex Park.

While the men are away playing in Durban over the next two weekends, the women will be playing their Interclub Sanders Trophy starting on Saturday afternoon. In the first round, Umgeni Waterfall play PMB Wanderers at Howick, PMB Collegians play Maritzburg West at Lynwood, Maritzburg play Howick at Umgeni Waterfall and Alex Park play Lynwood at Collegians. The semi-finals will be played on Sunday morning with the finals in the afternoon.

Two rounds of district mixed pairs were completed last Sunday and 28 teams are now through to the seven sections semi-final stage. Both last year’s winners and the runners-up are still in the running. These teams will continue the battle on June 21.
