Bowls round-up: Inland district fours start this weekend

THE Natal Inland men's and women's District Fours start this weekend. Play will be on a sectional basis with more than one team being able to qualify for the play-offs, as points count, not shots.

Players are reminded that play starts at 1.30 pm in the afternoons and at 9 am in the mornings.

The women have been drawn into three sections:

Section 1: Maritzburg on Saturday afternoon and PMB Wanderers on Sunday.

Section 2: Maritzburg West on Saturday afternoon and Collegians on Sunday.

Section 3: Collegians on Saturday afternoon and Maritzburg on Sunday.

The men have been drawn into seven sections:

Section 1: Maritzburg on Saturday afternoon and Maritzburg West on Sunday.

Section 2: Maritzburg on Saturday afternoon and Collegians on Sunday.

Section 3: Maritzburg on Saturday afternoon and PMB Wanderers on Sunday.

Section 4: Collegians on Saturday afternoon and Maritzburg West on Sunday.

Section 5: PMB Wanderers on Saturday afternoon and Maritzburg West on Sunday.

Section 6: PMB Wanderers on Saturday afternoon and Maritzburg on Sunday.

Section 7: Maritzburg West on Saturday afternoon and Maritzburg on Sunday.

Bowls South Africa

The results of the SA masters played last weekend were as follows:

Masters men: Gold: Brian Dixon (Eastern Gauteng). Silver: Shaun Addinall (Western Province). Bronze: Billy Radloff (Southern Cape) and Gerry Baker (CGBA).

Masters women: Gold: Susan Nel (Sedebeng). Silver: Helen Grundlingh (Port Natal). Bronze: Loraine Victor (Gauteng North) and Sylvia Burns (Western Province).

Junior men: Gold: Pierre Brentenbach (North West). Silver: Juane Meyer (Eastern Province). Bronze: Bradley Robinson (Inland) and Stephan de Jager (Boland).

Junior women: Gold: Tracey-Lee Botha (CGBA). Silver: Petro van Aswegan (Mpumalanga). Bronze: Desmarie Rosenblatt (Eastern Province) and Brunhilde Rossouw (Southern Free State).

Senior men: Gold: Eddie Fann (Kingfisher). Silver : Mike Marnewick (Sedebeng). Bronze: Barry Ireland (CGBA) and Les Harper (Port Natal).

Senior women: Gold: Ellie van Coller (Eastern Gauteng). Silver: Brenda Webb (Eastern Gauteng) and Bronze: Flo George (CGBA) and Jacqui Atkinson (CGBA).

Test Match

South Africa will be playing England in a three-match Test series at the Wanderers Bowling Club in Johannesburg from February 20 to 22. Each Test will be over all the disciplines with trips and pairs each morning and fours and singles in the afternoons. The Proteas will be represented by Men: Shaun Addinall, Gerry Baker, Bobby Donnelly, Wayne Pery, Clinton Roets and Regan Jacobus as an additional player; Women: Sylvia Burns, Jenny Jones, Pam Landau, Susan Nel, Loraine Victor and Helen Grundlingh as an additional player.

World Junior Cup

BSA will be sending two players to the World Junior Cup to be played at the Warilla Bowling Club in New South Wales, Australia from March 27 to April 2. They are Pierre Breitenbach (North West) and Tracey-Lee Botha (Central Gauteng).
