Boy feared drowned at Isipingo

A SEVEN-YEAR-OLD boy is recovering at Prince Mshiyeni Hospital after he was involved in a near drowning at the swimming pool at Scottburgh main beach on Saturday morning. It is believed that the child slipped and fell into the pool at around 11.20 am.

Lifeguards found him floating face down in the water and totally unresponsive. They began CPR immediately.

When paramedics arrived they found that the early response of the lifeguards resulted in the child regaining his heartbeat and breathing. Medics stabilised the child and then transported him to the hospital.

Further north, a 19-year-old boy is missing at sea and is presumed to have drowned at the Isipingo River mouth on Saturday afternoon. It is reported that a group of people were swimming in a no-swimming zone when one of them landed in a strong current and was swept out to sea.

Paramedics arrived at the beach and found that the lifeguards had been searching for the missing person. Police search-and-rescue divers were called in and the scene was handed over to them.

“The search is still ongoing but unfortunately at this stage we have not had any luck in recovering the body,” a police spokesperson said yesterday.
