Bridgmohan, Msunduzi strike a deal

2011-03-31 00:00

THE suspended chief financial officer of Msunduzi Municipality, Roy Bridgmohan, has officially resigned following a settlement reached between the parties.

Bridgmohan resigned on February 25 with immediate effect without a “golden handshake” from the municipality.

Reporting to councillors at yesterday’s sitting, admnistrator Sibusiso Sithole said that the MEC for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs has approved the settlement.

“There seems to be limited evidence at this stage that any money was misappropriated by Mr Bridgmohan.

“Various rumours to this effect seem to be without evidential basis, or certainly none that has been brought to the attention of the prosecution … ” said Sithole.

A substantial portion of the charges against Bridgmohan were based on allegations that he had been partly responsible for the municipality’s financial crisis or that he should have been proactive in addressing the situation.

Sithole said that although no evidence of corruption and fraud were presented against Bridgmohan, the municipality will not hesitate to forward any evidence that may come to light to the Hawks for criminal charges to be pursued against him.

Applications for a new CFO and municipal manager will be canvassed in May.
