Brilliant sporting achievements

2011-07-26 00:00

DURING the winter school holidays, a number of KwaZulu-Natal schoolboys did well in sporting events in which they participated.

Kyle Schoonbee, a Grade 10 pupil at Hilton College and a member of the SA Schools’ rowing team, came 4th in the A-final of the junior men’s single-scull event, at the Holland Beker in Amsterdam.

Donovan Wewege from Maritzburg College became the first South African junior ever to qualify for the final in a world championship canoe slalom event. He was placed sixth in the junior section and ninth overall in the event, held at Wausau in Illinois, in the United States.

Seamus Mingay (St Charles) and Stedon Venter (Northwood), members of the KZN judo team, took part in the South African Championnships in Cape Town, and came back with bronze medals in their weight categories.

Martin Rohwer from Kearsney College won the KZN invitational golf tournament held at the Kloof Country Club, with rounds of 70 and 64. The latter round equalled the course record.
