Bullet narrowly misses man in Scottsville attempted hijacking

A PIETERMARITZBURG man is still in shock after a bullet narrowly missed him in an attempted car hijacking incident at the weekend.

Ntuthuko Ngubane (33) of Southgate had parked in Connaught Road in Scottsville when he was approached by two unknown men who tried to hijack his car at about 2.30 am on Saturday.

Ngubane, who works in the construction industry, said one of the men hit the driver’s window with a stone, shattering the glass.

“They tried to pull me out of the car, but I managed to reverse and drove off. They fired one shot and it almost hit me.

“It hit the windscreen and the safety belt. I was lucky it didn’t hit me,” he said.

He said it was unclear whether the suspects had been following him as they had no car.

Ngubane then drove to Alexandra Road police station to report the matter.

Police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said the police are investigating a case of attempted murder and no empty cartridge was found on the scene.

The motive for the attack was unknown and no arrest had been made, he said.
