Bundu bash hosted a multitude of sporting events to test all fitness levels

A PERFECT event on a perfect day, the Stihl St Dominic’s Academy Newcastle bundu bash held at Balele Game Park in Utrecht last Saturday was a multi-sport event with participants from as far afield as Pietermaritzburg entering.

With a run-swim-run-ride format it catered for all off-road athletes. The easy dustbuster event was for the little people or the not so fit, while the chainsaw catered for the more proficient.

The off-road route was challenging yet fair, with flowing jeep tracks, interesting single tracks and some technical river crossings.

Jody Mitchell manoeuvred his way over floating bridges through rivers to finish in a winning time of 1:12,33 seconds.

A five-kilometre amble gave the less competitive a chance to stroll through the veld viewing the game at leisure. A short bundu buddies’ event for the children involved a run, an obstacle course, a ride and a slippy slide.

Watch SuperSport this month when this event will be aired.

The campsite on the banks of the Balele Dam was filled with families turning it into a weekend, while the less adventurous stayed in the chalets.

The event is already booked for next year as a regular fixture on the sport calendar.
