Buoyant KZN Inland to face Free State at Oval

2013-02-07 00:00

THE KwaZulu-Natal Inland cricket team will not be lacking in confidence when they turn up to face fourth-placed Free State at the Maritzburg Oval this morning for the first day of the CSA Provincial Three-day Competition encounter.

Two resounding back-to-back victories over a hapless Namibia last week in Windhoek was just the tonic that head coach Grant Morgan’s 12th-ranked side would have been looking for ahead of what is sure to be a sterner challenge against the men from Bloemfontein.

Inland opening bowler

Ruhan Pretorius can surely not be expected to produce a repeat of his astonishing 12-wicket match haul against the shellshocked Namibian batsmen last week. But there were encouraging signs that the

Inland attack is beginning to work as a unit to apply constant pressure on the opposition’s innings.

Up front, Nic Hendrie, Brad Moses, Abram Ndhlovu and SJ Erwee are really hitting their straps with the bat.

Moreover, team captain Kyle Nipper is playing a pivotal role as leader, batsman, bowler and top-class fielder rolled into one.

With the T20 match on Sunday, following the three-day match’s conclusion on Saturday, there is sure to be much food for thought at the picturesque Oval over the next four days.

The KZN Inland Premier League cricketers have a break this weekend and are sure to make their way down to the PMB Oval to cheer their club colleagues on.
