Burger Streen bus stop bashed, witness refuse to talk

2011-08-11 00:00

THE bus stop shelter on Burger Street opposite McDonalds, which was built in October last year with 11 others across Pietermaritzburg, was struck by a bus at the weekend.

Municipal spokesperson Brian Zuma said the shelter was struck by one of the passenger liners that park at the bus stop .

The matter was only reported to Msunduzi Municipality on Monday afternoon.

Zuma said that people who witnessed the incident have refused to say which bus hit the shelter.

This is the second bus shelter that has been knocked down since last year. Another was mowed down by a truck on 50 Durban Road opposite the shops.

Zuma said that the incident will be dealt with legally as soon as the municipality finds out which bus hit the shelter.

“The cost of replacing the shelter will not be borne by the municipality or the construction company that constructed the shelters.” said Zuma.

The damaged shelter has since been removed.
