Burger to remain on bench for now

CAPE TOWN — Western Province coach Allister Coetzee will keep flank Schalk Burger on the bench for their Currie Cup clash against the Golden Lions at Newlands on Saturday.

Burger returned to action after a long injury lay-off when he played the last 20 minutes of WP’s 29-27 win over Free State in Bloemfontein last Friday.

“I’m being very cautious with Schalk,” Coetzee said. “He is the first one to say that he is happy to just get through 20 minutes against the Cheetahs on Friday. We’ll give him a bit more [game] time this week.”

WP are currently unbeaten after eight rounds of action and a win over the Lions would seal a home semi-final.
