Burglers hit firm again

2010-08-11 00:00

A PIETERMARITZBURG business has been hit by burglars for the second time in a month.

Waste Control in Pentrich was broken into last Thursday night, said owner Kelvin Pirie (69).

The Witness recently reported on the plight of Waste Control, which has been the victim of about 40 burglaries in the past four years.

The report quoted the businessman saying that the last straw was when he and his staff arrived at work to find that almost all their tools had been stolen.

The business no longer has an alarm system as it was also stolen during one of the burglaries.

“They broke in again and stole about R500 worth of stainless steel fittings,” said Pirie. “Fortunately that is just about all that they managed to steal this time.”

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Joey Jeevan confirmed the burglary and said the sliding door to the office had been forced open.

She said that upon further investigation, Pirie noticed that an unknown amount of stainless steel fittings had been stolen.

A case of burglary at business premises has been opened, she said.

“No arrests have been made at this point. However, police are still investigating,” added Jeevan.
