Business chamber grows despite challenging year

2010-07-29 00:00

CITY businessman Tinus Havinga was re-elected president of the Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business (PCB) at the organisation’s annual general meeting at Chamber House last night.

Businessman Paris Dlamini was elected deputy president and Rita Bridglall, FNB’s area commercial manager responsible for the business sector in Pietermaritzburg, was elected treasurer.

Dlamini, who has been a PCB director for several years, takes over as deputy president from Zandi Makhaye, owner of Owethu Holdings, which is involved in enterprise development and training co-operatives.

Dlamini is managing consultant of the recruitment agency, Ekuseni Consulting, based in Pietermaritzburg, which deals with a number of heavyweight clients in the fields of recriutment, selection and placement.

Havinga, a former PCB deputy president, is the principal partner of PSG Konsult Midlands, part of the financial services group, PSG Konsult.

The PCB has grown its membership by more than four percent to 911 members during a challenging year for the city’s economy.

The PCB is the fourth largest chamber in South Africa.

Havinga noted that the year will go down in the history of the city as the time it came perilously close to bankruptcy.
