CD Review: Avante

2010-05-28 00:00

THEY have been together for the past eighteen years and are still going strong with their gospel sing-alongs.

Avante, a gospel group of four members – Lucky Cele, Sphiwe Khanyile, James Langa and Linda Gcwensa – has done it again with the new album titled Impilo (life), an album portraying growth and maturity from these South African gospel giants.

Every track has beautiful meaning; however, for me, Isela (a thief), Ungangiyeka kanjani (Why would you abandon me?) and Ningakhali (Don’t cry) are winning tracks on this album.

Avante’s eleventh album, Impilo is motivational, entertaining and it reassures the listener of the power of God to those who believe.

Working with some of the big names in the gospel music industry such as Sipho Mbhele, Babo Ngcobo, Skhulu Miya, Dumisani Sibisi and Melusi Nzimande ensured the superb quality of the music. The executive producers of this album are Edmund Mhlongo and Xolani Majozi.

Since the release of the debut album Sinethemba in 1997, Avante has become one of the most beloved gospel groups in South Africa, renowned for its moving and uplifting songs as much as for its great live performances.
