CRICKET: Selectors to observe players in interschool matches before naming final team

2010-10-19 00:00

AFTER the recent trials the KZN Coastal selectors have announced the U19 and U17 teams to take part in the national weeks in December.

The KZN Inland selectors have narrowed their squads down, but are using the next few interschools’ matches to observe players in the squads before naming the teams in early November.

The U19 Coca-Cola Khaya Majola Week takes place in Bloemfontein from December 17 to 21, after which a South African Schools’ team and a South African Academy team will both be announced.

The U17 Week in Pretoria and the U17 Rural Week in Kimberley both take place from December 11 to 15. The U15 Week takes place in Port Elizabeth from December 13 to 17.

Kearsney dominate the selections with four players in both the U19 and U17 sides and two in the U15. Glenwood also have four players in the U19 and two each in the U17 and U15 teams.

The selectors have obviously gone for players who have been doing well in their school matches, with the U19 team having a fair amount of experience. Three players, Chad Bowes (Kearsney), Sumanth Sunkari (Glenwood) and Sashlin Reddy (Westville) were in the side last year and a further six of the 13 players represented Coastals U17 in 2009.
