CSA, Dale Steyn salute Zimbabwe

2011-08-09 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Cricket South Africa (CSA) yesterday congratulated Zimbabwe on their outstanding victory over Bangladesh at Harare Sports Club in their official return to Test cricket after a six-year absence.

Zimbabwe won by the impressive margin of 130 runs to confirm that their return to the highest form of the game is well merited.

“It gives me great pleasure to congratulate the Zimbabwe Cricket Board and your national side on their brilliant victory over Bangladesh in the Test match which finished at the Harare Sports Club today,” wrote CSA CEO Gerald Majola in a letter to Ozias Bvute, managing director of Zimbabwe Cricket.

“What a wonderful day it is not just for Zimbabwe Cricket but for cricket on the African continent as well. It is a splendid way to celebrate your return to the five-day game. It was particularly encouraging to see a new talent such as Brian Vitori make a big impact on the match and there is no doubt that the franchise system you have introduced at domestic level on much the same lines as we have done has much to do with that.”

The Proteas’ Dale Steyn tweeted his congratulations: “Congrats to our neighbours, Zimbabwe! Boys have come out strong after a few years out. Fantastic to see!”
