Cables: Thefts silence Belford

2011-06-02 00:00

BELFORD Estate residents have become the most recent victims of cable theft, which has left them without telephones.

The theft took place on Tuesday last week, but despite numerous calls to Telkom, they have not been reconnected.

Telkom spokesperson Pynee Chetty said: “Business and residential customers are severely affected due to an alarming amount of copper cable theft that results in service interruptions. Telkom always endeavours to restore interrupted services as expeditiously as possible.”

Such thefts can recur, Chetty added.

Telkom is not always aware of the thefts and residents should report them to 10212, or 10217 for businesses. Chetty advised customers to call Telkom’s billing inquiries service at 10210 about rebates.
