Call centre: Lines set to open in a week

2011-07-04 00:00

THE Msunduzi services call centre, which was supposed to be operational on July 1, will definitely be in action from next Monday.

That’s the word from municipal spokesperson Brian Zuma, who said yesterday the delay was caused by the fact that the company that installed the system has not been available to train staff on the technical aspects of the new system.

Zuma said training will take place on Thursday and Friday this week.

He said staff have been put in place and have undergone training on how to manage the call centre.

In other municipal news, the robot at the Chota Motala/Church Street offramp — one of the busiest intersections in the city — is still not working after it went out of operation last week.

Zuma said the cable for the robot was damaged during construction work under way there, and it was later discovered that the robot controller was also damaged.

“There were big problems,” he said. He was not sure when it would be repaired, but undertook to ask the traffic department to arrange for its officers to attend the site after road users complained that the intersection is difficult to negotiate without the robot in operation. — Witness Reporter.
