Canoe race: Dusi entries close tomorrow

2011-01-13 00:00

CANOEING enthusiasts who have not registered for The Unlimited Dusi Canoe Marathon, which takes place on February 17, 18 and 19, are urged to look sharp as the entries closing date is tomorrow.

Ray de Vries spokesman for the organizers said late entries will be accepted after Friday, but will be subjected to a late entry fee. The Inanda dam looks set to be full which augurs well for a water release on the third day of the event.

He said the water quality is good and the organisers, in conjunction with the city of Pietermaritzburg, are doing everything possible to ensure that the water is as good, if not better than in 2010.

The charity batch auction is open and paddlers are able to enter the race and bid for the auction at www.dusi.co.za even if they have not yet qualified. Over R50 000 has been raised in the first four days that the auction has been open, he added. Updates on water levels and the hyacinth situation will be made via The Dusi Canoe Marathon Facebook page.
