Car in pool tragedy: third woman dies

2010-08-06 00:00

THE accident in which a vehicle plunged into a swimming pool on Monday with a Northdale family inside has claimed the life of a third woman.

The 38-year-old woman was the older daughter of Shamshunisa Sheik (55), who died in hospital on Tuesday.

Sheik’s younger daughter, Najmoonisa (33), was declared dead at the scene.

Police spokesperson Warrant Office Joey Jeevan said she could not release the latest victim’s name. The family earlier this week told The Witness that it is not part of their religion to talk to the media about the incident.

The shocking accident happened when four members of the family arrived in their Balhambra Way home from collecting Shamshunisa from hospital.

The Mercedes Benz they were travelling in rolled down the driveway and plunged into their pool.

A 40-year-old driver of the vehicle was the only one who managed to escape.

Jeevan said police have forwarded a culpable homicide docket to the senior public prosecutor to decide whether to prosecute or not.
