Casino con: Victims to identify woman

2012-12-11 00:00

THE alleged casino con-woman appeared in the Durban Commercial Crimes court yesterday on three counts of fraud.

She cannot be named because there was an identity parade under way.

The case has been postponed to December 12 in order for her to apply for legal aid, police said yesterday.

Police said the woman may have been operating around casinos in Durban and Pietermaritzburg for over a year.

The woman would claim to know of psychics who could increase her victims’ chances of winning.

She would also perform rituals, such as taking a potential victims’ money, putting it in a box and then mumbling some kind of spell.

She would then disappear with money. One victim was robbed of R1million worth of cash and jewellery.

“We believe that there are more victims out there who might have been too embarrassed to come forward previously,” police spokesperson Colonel Jay Naicker said in a statement last week.
