Celebrity watch: ‘Vin Diesel spotted in tourist town'

2009-04-09 00:00

Is it him or is it just a lookalike? Who is the man that has everyone in a frenzy?

The people of Clarens in the Free State seem to think it is the real deal. Vin Diesel has been spotted again, this time in the little town that became famous overnight in 2004 when Brad Pitt allegedly bought a R8,3 million property there.

Could it be that Clarens is fast becoming a celebrity hotspot? Some residents claim to have seen him in the shopping square.

Simon Kerr of Clarens Adventures & Tourism said he and his daughter Melissa saw the star leaving via the back entrance of a coffee shop called the Wobbly Waitress. “He was wearing a tight T-shirt and jeans. We saw him from the back and thought, ‘Wow, that looks a lot like Vin’. I wasn’t sure at first, but my daughter was adamant it was him.” Kerr said his doubts were swept aside when he saw an article in The Witness yesterday about Diesel being seen around. “I knew then that the man we saw really was him.”

Ever since the first reported sighting, it has been suspected that Diesel is in the country for the UCI Nissan Mountain Bike World Cup. Kerr said his daughter spoke to the man and asked if he was Diesel and what he was doing in town. According to Kerr, Diesel said that he was in town for a bike event and “wanted to see the village where Brad had bought property”.

Kerr said his daughter asked him where he was staying and Diesel refused to give the name of the location.
