Cele's dream wedding

2010-10-02 00:00

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma tops the guest list of police General Bheki Cele’s wedding to Thembeka Ngcobo at Pennington’s Lynton Hall on the South Coast today in what promises to be the wedding of the year. The guest list boasts a tapestry of business people and cabinet ministers.

Some of the cabinet ministers who will attend this glamorous affair include Human Settlement Minister Tokyo Sexwale, Justice Minister Jeff Radebe, who is Cele’s umkhongi (a member of the lobola negotiation team), and Cele’s boss, Police Minister Nathi Mthethwa.

Business people S’bu Mpisane, Cele’s childhood friend and homeboy from Lamontville and Mabheleni Ntuli, a Zuma supporter who organised the latter’s multi-million rand inauguration at the Union Buildings last year, will also be present.

Mpisane, a former eThekwini Metro police officer, is in charge of protocol, while Ntuli, who is no stranger to organising exclusive events, has been tasked with handling the décor.

Billionaire businessman Robert Gumede and Zuma’s nephew Khulubuse Zuma have also been invited, while football bosses Mato Madlala of Golden Arrows and Orlando Pirates chair Irvin Khoza, another of Cele’s mkhongi, are also expected to make an appearance. Gumede made the headlines earlier this year when he spared no cost at his wedding to Dr Portia Mkhize, reportedly spending tens of millions.

Cele and his wife-to-be, Madlala and Khulubuse were also present at Mpisane’s glittering white-themed New Year party.

Cele’s persistence and penchant for women with the surname Ngcobo seems to have finally paid off as this is fourth time lucky for him.

He previously dated Zama Ngcobo, who co-presented Ukhozi FM’s Drive Time afternoon show with Linda “Mr Magic” Sibiya.

While Cele was said to have been married to one Thando Ngcobo at one time, he was also involved with Bongiwe Ngcobo for a number of years, but not at the same time. Bongiwe, who had dreams of being a model, was involved in a car accident on Christmas Day in 2008 on the N2 where the jaws of life had to be used to get her out of her wrecked Mercedes Benz. They were reportedly engaged at the time and Cele spent countless hours by her bedside. The couple parted ways before he resigned as KZN’s Transport MEC to take up his current position.

The media have been barred from covering the event and there is talk of the wedding rights having been sold to a magazine.
