Celtic: mphela’s role in wolves game in doubt

2011-07-28 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Katlego “Killer” Mphela was set to play a friendly for Celtic against Wolves yesterday, if the club could get permission from a reluctant Sundowns and the SFA.

Hoops boss Neil Lennon is keen to see Killer in action after he joined the club for training on Monday. He has a number of players on trial including Croatian goalkeeper Stipe Pletikosa and St Etienne’s Ivorian striker Boubacar Sanogo.

Lennon told the Evening Times: “We don’t know if he can play against Wolves. We will have to look to see if we can get some kind of dispensation.

“If we can, it will be a big bonus for us. But I’d imagine we’d have to get permission from his club, and that is a very difficult thing to do.”

Meanwhile, former Mpumalanga Black Aces assistant manager Dylan Kerr, who played for a number of Scottish sides, reckons Killer will be a success in the SPL.

He told the Daily Record: “Mphela has been the most prolific striker at club level and for the South Africa national side in the last three years.”
