Charged: Motorist, cop await decision

2010-03-03 00:00

DOCKETS in relation to an assault charge laid against a “bullying” traffic official by motorist Jude Ward, as well as the charges brought against her for alleged traffic violations, are in the hands of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Ward made a brief appearance before Camperdown magistrate Thys Taljaard yesterday.

Her case was postponed to March 16 pending the DPP’s decision on the matter.

The traffic officer who allegedly assaulted Ward at the Camperdown police station has not appeared in court, and will only do so if the DPP decides he has a case to answer.

Ward faces charges of reckless and negligent driving and failure to obey the instructions of a traffic officer. She laid counter-charges of assault against the traffic officer, who allegedly assaulted her and knocked her to the ground inside the Camperdown police charge office, in full view of police officers on January 18.
