Cheetahs let it slip through

2015-04-20 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Cheetahs flyhalf Joe Pietersen failed to convert a debatable last-minute penalty to hand the Reds a 18-17 win in Bloemfontein.

Two tries from both teams — Rayno Benjamin and Boom Prinsloo for the home side, Adam Korczuk and Sam Kerevi for the Reds — saw a close match played out. Joe Pietersen converted both tries and a penalty, but it wasn’t enough as James O’Connor kicked over a conversion and a penalty.

A 73rd-minute drop-goal by Nick Frisby put the Reds ahead and Pietersen’s final effort at the poles hit the upright.
