Chiefs set to firm up Stuart Baxter signing as coach

2012-05-03 00:00

JOHANNESBURG — Kaizer Chiefs were looking to firm up their deal for coach Stuart Baxter, said reports.

The former Bafana coach has been identified as the favourite for the hot seat at Naturena since Vladimir Vermezovic was relieved of his position at the club. Even though he has explained that he has had no contact from the club, it is thought that they are finally preparing something to table for the Scotsman.

A source explained: “Chiefs are trying to firm up a deal at the minute, but they’ve had to put the breaks on things in order to sort out what’s going on at the minute, it’s a damage limitation.”

SoccerLaduma contacted Baxter, who said his situation was still the same, at that he had heard nothing yet.

Baxter said: “My situation hasn’t changed, I’ll be looking at whatever is put on the table … between now and the European Championships.”

The Amakhosi management have insisted that they will have found Vermezovic’s replacement by the end of May so they have around a month to finalise things for whoever is going to come in, but it is still thought that Baxter will be the man to lead them into next season’s campaign.
