Chippa look to halt Chiefs’ unbeaten run

2014-12-13 00:00

CAPE TOWN — Chippa United will be the latest side to try and end Kaizer Chiefs’ unbeaten Premiership run this season when the two sides meet at the Peter Mokaba Stadium this evening.

The Chilli Boys have enjoyed a successful league campaign to date, sitting sixth place on the standings following an impressive showing from the team that played in the National First Division last season.

Recent form, however, has not been great for Chippa, who have taken just a point from their last two games, during which time they have conceded five goals.

Chiefs, meanwhile, are looking to remain unbeaten as they head in to their 16th league match of the campaign.

AmaKhosi have, however, drawn their last three home matches, including Tuesday’s 2-2 stalemate against Platinum Stars.

Chippa, though, have earned most of their points at home this season, taking just six from a possible 18 on the road.

The Eastern Cape side are without the injured Bafana Bafana striker David Zulu, but in Andile Mbenyane and George Akpabio, they have two players who know how to find the back of the net, both of them having been prolific last season, while Akpabio scored in the 3-1 midweek reverse to Polokwane City.

Chiefs coach Stuart Baxter has no injury concerns, but rather faces a selection headache in terms of who to leave out.

Midfielder Siphiwe Tshabalala has come to the fore with some crucial goals in recent weeks, while fellow midfield men George Lebese, Reneilwe Letsholonyane and Mandla Masango have all made sizable goal contributions already this season.

Up front, Bernard Parker has found his groove again, while Siphelele Mtehmbu recently got his first goal for the club.

There will be plenty for Chippa coach Roger Sikhakhane to worry about as he tries to do what no other coach has done in the league this season — beat Kaizer Chiefs. — Sport24.
