Chota Motala: Go slow with the trucks to get off the N3 from today

2012-04-13 00:00

IF you use the N3 in the vicinity of the Chota Motala interchange, slow down and pick your lane early.

From today, there will be several changes to the traffic flow on the N3 near the Chota Motala interchange to allow for the construction of the new concrete overlay on the N3 North Bound Carriageway.

Bradley Naidoo of Group Five said from 2 pm today onwards, vehicles on the N3 northbound carriageway fast lane heading towards Johannesburg, will be driving contraflow to the traffic flow to Durban.

The fast lane traffic will break off just before the Manning Road overpass bridge and will travel on the newly laid concrete pavement next to the new concrete median barrier.

He said the vehicles travelling on the fast lane should be aware that the lane has been designed for light motor vehicles heading towards Johannesburg only; they will not be able to access the Northdale/Greytown off-ramp or the Sanctuary Road Liberty Mall off-ramp. He said vehicles wanting to access the Northdale/Greytown off-ramp and the Sanctuary Road Liberty Mall off-ramp should remain in the slow lane.

“The slow lane will direct vehicles to the Northdale/Greytown off-ramp, Sanctuary Road off-ramp, Liberty Mall and Johannesburg.”

“The contraflow will be for fast lane traffic only and will be for two kilometres. Traffic that will be deviated will be separated by concrete barriers for the entire detour. Traffic will be deviated back onto the northbound carriageway, just after the Sanctuary Road/ Liberty Mall off-ramp,” He advised drivers to go slow and ensure they are in the correct lane.
