City to host SA’s first information and communication technology fair

2011-07-25 00:00

PIETERMARITZBURG will stage the first Information and Communication Technology (ICT) fair in the country from Wednesday until Friday.

Organisers hope 15 000 people from all over the country will attend the fair at the Royal Agricultural Showgrounds.

The ICT fair is championed by KZN Digi-Connect in collaboration with uMgungundlovu FET College, Msunduzi Municipality, uMgungundlovu District Municipality and the provincial Department of Economic Development and Tourism.

Last Thursday the chairperson of the Pietermaritzburg ICT fair, Dennis Memela, received sponsorship from Audi and Redlands Hotel in the presence of the Msunduzi Mayor, Chris Ndlela, and Pietermaritzburg Chamber of Business (PCB) dignitaries.

“As you know, I’m passionate about education and I’m grateful to Digi-Connect for bringing such a big fair that will benefit the city a lot. ICT is the way to go right now,” said Ndlela.

He said he is looking forward to the fair and he hopes that the people of Pietermaritzburg will take full advantage of the event.

PCB president Tinus Havinga said, “This is the type of fair that we need, a fair that will affect people’s lives in different levels.”

Among the guests at the fair will be Communication Deputy Minister Obed Bapela, KZN MEC for Economic Development Mike Mabuyakhulu and various speakers from across the country and the province.
