Co-worker hit with hammer

A WORKPLACE row turned nasty when a man hit a co-worker with a hammer after he was allegedly coughed on.

Police have confirmed that the attack took place last Wednesday at a workshop in Hoosen Haffejee Street in the Pietermaritzburg city centre.

Captain Thulani Zwane said a case of assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm has been opened.

He said it was alleged that Mthembeni Mbatha (39) was at work when an argument with a co-worker started after he allegedly coughed on him.

He said during the altercation the co-worker picked up a hammer and assaulted Mbatha on his left hand, causing injuries to his thumb.

The suspect has not yet been arrested.
