Coach and Player of the Month awards for sharks’ Plumtree and daniel

SHARKS coach John Plumtree and flank Keegan Daniel yesterday received the Coach and Player of the Month awards for October at a ceremony held in Durban.

Plumtree’s side, who will take on Western Province in the final of the Currie Cup on Saturday, ended the league phase of the 2010 competition in first position on the log. They booked their place in this weekend’s final after they secured a 16-12 victory over the defending champions, the Blue Bulls, in Durban earlier this month.

The hosts have not lost at home this season.

“It’s a massive week that lies ahead for us at the Sharks and to receive this special award hopefully means that we are doing something right,” said Plumtree.

Daniel has been in outstanding form for the Sharks this season. The 25-year-old flanker is the third leading try-scorer in the 2010 competition and has been one of the Sharks’ star performers during their campaign this year. He is one of five nominees in the category of the Currie Cup Player of the Year Award, which will be announced at the annual Saru Player of the Year banquet on Monday.
