Coach buries row with ‘real professional’ Jimmy Tau

JOHANNESBURG — Former Kaizer Chiefs captain Jimmy Tau has earned high praise from coach Vladimir Vermezovic, who has hailed the defender a “real professional”.

The relationship between Vermezovic and Tau appeared to be heading for the rocks when the latter was acrimoniously stripped of the captaincy in October for contravening at least one of the club’s rules.

Tau reportedly clashed with the Amakhosi coach following Chiefs’ 2-1 defeat to Golden Arrows before later confiding to an outsider that he intended to quit as captain.

However, it would seem this is now water under the bridge, judging by what Vermezovic had to say about his former skipper.

“The issue of Jimmy Tau happened more than two months ago, so why should we go back to it? But anyway, I can tell you Jimmy is a real professional,” the Serbian told Football365.

The full-back was in action for the Glamour Boys on Sunday as they sneaked a 1-0 victory over fellow PSL title hopefuls Mamelodi Sundowns, and Vermezovic believes the player’s performance against the Brazilians speaks volumes about his commitment to the club.

“You could see when we played Sundowns that even though Jimmy is no longer captain he was fighting the way he used to when he was still the captain.

“So like I said the only thing I can say about him is that he is a real professional,” Vermezovic said.

The coach did, however, argue that no player is bigger than the club, and that any infringements against its rules will not be tolerated.

“In any case, he’s got a contract with Kaizer Chiefs and he must follow the rules of the club, that’s it,” Vermezovic said.
