Cobras sit pretty on top of log

THE Cape Cobras maintained their position at the top of the Ram Slam T20 Challenge table as they cruised to a comfortable 72-run victory over the Warriors at St George’s Park last night.

Chasing a venue record total of 188 to win, the Warriors were in trouble early and never recovered to be dismissed for 115. The result put to bed any chance the Warriors had of making the playoffs and also gave the Cobras a bonus point victory.

English professional Craig Kieswetter (1) and Colin Ingram (2) were dismissed in the second over of the Warriors’ run-chase by fast bowler Dane Paterson. Jon-Jon Smuts followed in the next over, bowled by Mthokozisi Shezi and that left the home side at seven for three.

The Warriors never really recovered from that position although Ryan Bailey did put up a bit of a fight with 35 off 30 balls.

Offspinner Sybrand Engelbrecht was the surprise wicket-taker claiming four for 22 while left-arm spinner George Linde took three wickets of his own as the duo ran through the middle and lower order.

After losing the toss and being sent in to bat, openers Richard Levi and Andrew Puttick shared a century stand to help the Cobras post 187 for three.
