Cocaine: United player banned

2009-02-19 00:00

MARITZBURG United player Lucky Maselesele has been banned from soccer for two years after testing positive for cocaine.

The former Kaizer Chiefs midfielder received the ban from the SA Football Association’s disciplinary committee on Wednesday night. He tested positive for a banned substance after United’s game against Wits University on November 12.

The ban could mean the end of his career for the popular 29-year-old player, who joined United from First Division team FC AK at the beginning of this season.

United team manager Quintin Jettoo said that by testing positive, Maselesele is in breach of contract with both his club and the Premier Soccer League.

In a further blow for United, striker Lebohang Kukame broke his leg in a car accident near Estcourt on Monday. He will have an operation today at St Anne’s.
